The Saturday Six Pack With Mark Maynard, Episode 29
From an old converted barbershop inside the area’s largest all-nude strip club comes the twenty-ninth episode of the Saturday Six Pack With Mark Maynard.
Moving from print media, Mark Maynard brings his interview style to the world of AM radio. In the first hour, Mark sits down with illustrator and University of Michigan professor Joseph Trumbey. The two discuss sustainable design, Joseph’s straw bale house, his desire to make stuff, and his upcoming plan to butcher a bull. Next, Mark invites local hair entrepreneur Rachel Blistein to sit down for a chat about her company Original Moxie and starting a manufacturing business in a non-manufacturing business district, career transition, and self-acceptance from embracing her unique hair. Finally, husband and wife band Yellow Rail Family knock out three spacey songs inspired by camping and the uniform CPA examination but not before a spirited discussion breaks our regarding the rise and fall of the Ypsilanti Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and its hostile takeover by greedy, power-hungry Ann Arborites. The show ends with Mark recreating the classic “The Warriors” taunt, “Warriors come out to pla-yyyy-ay!”
