The Saturday Six Pack With Mark Maynard, Episode 49
From an old converted barbershop inside the area’s largest all-nude strip club comes the forty-ninth episode of the Saturday Six Pack With Mark Maynard. Moving from print media, Mark Maynard brings his interview style to the world of AM radio.
This week, the legendary John Sinclair, having just returned from Amsterdam in order to enjoy the Michigan autumn, joins Mark in the studio. John touches on everything ranging from his love of cool jazz and hard bop and R&B music to his disdain for today’s hipster kids. He talks about his time with the MC5, living in Ann Arbor during the sixties, and how pedestrian John Hayden and the SDS were. Mr. Sinclair lets it all fly, no-holds-barred. And in case you were wondering, he was super high.
Up next, Dr. Benjamin Edmondson, superintendent of Ypsilanti Community Schools and long-time friend of the station, stops by the settle a bet with Mark and give him an Ohio State cap to wear.
The show ends with Cash Harrison and his crew sitting down with Mark to discuss the intricacies of bummercore. Cash plays a handful of songs and talks about Plymouth, Michigan’s livability before dropping a bombshell exclusive on the audience. Cash reveals his real name isn’t Cash. It turns out his parents didn’t name him after their fondness for country music legend Johnny Cash but rather their deep admiration for the 12th president of the United States, Zachary Taylor.
